Work-out robotic trainer

A lot of robots are currently being introduced in Japan, and I am certian we will get a chance to see a lot of them ‘live’ at iRex come November. One of the latest is Taizo – the aerobics instructor robot for elderly people. You can read more about it here at gizmag

In healthcare robots tend to either take care of tasks that demand manual labor – or offer  intercation with people that suffer from different types of social challenges. My prediction would be that the Taizo will probably not be the most selling robot in the healthcare industry as it is. It is perhaps easier to use than a Wii Fit – but it is a lot of hardware for just one task. Perhaps the Taizo project should rather be a software application for an open robot hardware platform such as the Nao from Aldebaran. Buying or renting the Taizo would be much more interesting if it can perform other tasks than just doing aerobic exersises at tai-chi speed.
