Roblob

Who says a robot should look like a real life person? It sure dosen’t. And at Festo they traditionally work with alternative expressions and functions for robots that are beyond impressive. Their latest invention is more scaring that impressive though. The Funktionide as it is called is supposedly invented to create the sense of another being in your prencense – sort of like having a giant robot slug as a pet. There are obvious connotations to Pleo, Paro and Aibo – but also to robots used in human-techonology interaction research.

I can’t help thinking what would happen in the area of ‘styling’ if this robot was released on say the Japanese marked and backed up by a web community like the available for Nabaztag. The business case for accessories alone is humongous.
