Playing while cleaning

It seems that most of those who dabble in robotics are the nerdy types who would prefer not to do the cleaning up – and this is (among other reasons) why the robot vacuum cleaner is quickly turning into a popular base for doing quick mock-ups of experimental robot projects.

One example is the classic youtube clip with a japanese fellow who hooks his Roomba up with a Wii Balanceboard… fun stuff, and so utterly simple it’s allmost cheating. See the clip below.

The latest example I have come across is the live reinactment of one of the most popular arcade games ever into a robot vacuum setting… see it below, or read more at RoboticsBlog.

Finally in our own RoboDays ranks we had a guy do a roomba hacking project for our last robotfestival i september 2009. It is annoying in a really cool way. See a video of it below:

Robot trip to Japan

Just to show off: I will go to Japan for two weeks from the 15th of november to meet and greet with as many robot-companies over there as possible. For example I have just received confirmation that I can come and visit this company: http://www.robo-garage.com in Kyoto.  I will also attend the iREX in Tokyo and give a presentation about danish robot research at the ET robot contest in Yokohama. I am very much looking forward to this trip – should anybody else wish to invite me to see their robot lab now that I am there – please drop me a mail.

Hand-eye coordination beyond human capacity

At Ishikawa Komuro Laboratory in Japan they have created amazing results in the area of hand-eye coordination for robots. Take at look at the videos at their homepage or se this presentation that briefly covers some of their achievements. We should definately keep an eye on this company –  perhaps as an exhibitor at Robodays 2010.

RoboDays Electro night review

At the RoboDays Robotfestival this year the venue of our exhibition chose to set up a couple of concerts with some of the most famous artists Denmark can produce in the area of electronic music. The concert have been reviewed by GAFFA and by Geiger – both reviews are in Danish – but all in all they received way-better-than-bad reviews for both Martin Hall + Tone and for Mike Sheridan. We at RoboDays sincerely hope to continue the great cooperation with ‘Kulturmaskinen’ for future RoboDays Robotfestivals.
